As part of our poetry unit we have been writing some fantastic Olympic based poems. Earlier this week we watched the YouTube clip titled 'Don't Give Up'. We then wrote poems about the experience of the athlete in this video.

Do Not Give Up
I'm excited to start the race as we get ready on the line,
Crouching I feel nervous,
Desperate to win.
Hoping to get gold.
Bang there's the gun.
I run my fastest.
Suddenly I feel tremendous pain,
But I won't give up.
I'm struggling, hopping.
Dad breaks through security
Encourages me, helping me to the finish.
I feel proud with extreme sadness.

Heartbroken
Waiting for the race to start,
Nervous, desperate, excited and proud.
Warming up and stretching.
Bang, the race starts.
I feel great, strong and fit.
"Ow!"
I get searing pain,
Disappointed and determined.
There's my Dad,
Giving me love, help and encouragement.
I've finished.
I'm crying and proud.
There it is,
Sadness in the air.

Don't Give Up
Standing waiting for the race to begin, feeling nervous, but proud to be there.
Lining up waiting to start.
BANG! Off we go.
Feeling fit and strong, want to win.
Oww! Searing pain.
Feeling disappointed, but will not give up.
Excited to see Dad, feeling loved and helped.
Beginning to hop, people cheering.
Standing up clapping.
Finished, crying, feeling proud sadness as we walk over the finish line.

Tears
Running, thumping feet, the great excitement when you're going to win, all your training and now I'm fit.....Bang!
The race starts.
I'm doing really well, I'm about to win, strong.... Falling behind, agony in my hamstring.
I don't feel too good, tears are in my eyes, determined to keep going, I'm not going to give up.
My Dad pushes past the security, the encouragement, the love,
The searing pain still lingers, tears are still in my eyes.
I'm angry, disappointed, but proud too.
This is not how it's meant to be.
I hope I win next time,
I really, really do!

Don't Give Up
As I line up I see everyone cheering for me.
And the gun goes bang!
I start to run, my hamstring really hurts.
I fall down onto the ground.
My Dad sees me, he comes to help me.
I cry for a little bit.
I get to the finish and 65,000 people clap for me.

Don't Give Up
Before the race, desperate to win,
I've got on my face a big grin.
I wait for the gun, boom, there it goes.
I start to run.
I feel great, strong and fit as I run along.
Ouch, what is that?
I'm holding my thigh,
I fall over quickly, I start to cry.
I feel angry, disappointed and determined to finish,
My Dad comes and helps me.
As Dad and I walk to the finish line, I'm happy I finished,
But I'm still feeling sad,
But I was excited to see Dad.

Don't Give Up
Waiting at the start line, ready for the gun, feeling really nervous.
The gun goes bang, I start to go.
After a while nearly there.
Pain in my leg, searing pain.
I stop, but I keep on going.
Dad come, gives me love, he lets me go to finish the race.
I come last, but at least I finished.
I get to the finish line,
I hear the crowd cheering,
Saying my name.

The Race
Lining up I feel nervous
Waiting to start
I hear the gun go Bang!
I start to run fast, I feel fantastic.
Then huge pain in my leg
I fall to the ground, sad.
Dad comes and helps me finish
I cry on his shoulder.
Sad, angry and disappointed

Don't Give Up
A big race, desperate to win
Nervous, excited and proud to be there.
The gun "Boom" they started.
Someone in front, then two more
No one could take over him.
Suddenly his hamstring damaged
In pain he falls to the ground.
With difficulty he stood, jumped on.
Dad pushing through security,
Helping his son to the finish.
Crying on dad's shoulder.
